Armyworm Moth Population still rising

Armyworm Moth Population still rising

The trend of greater armyworm numbers in the Sacramento Valley continues. Here’s the latest from UCCE Rice Farming Systems Advisor Luis Espino:

Number of moths keeps increasing. I spent quite a bit of time at the beginning of the week looking for young worms at several locations, but could not find any yet. I will repeat the search early next week and post the findings on the next email.

For comparison, last year we started finding second instars when the traps were catching between 12 and 15 moths per day.
